"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever."  Amen. -- Matthew 6:9-13

About Us

The Mansfield Tarheels Select Basketball Club is a year-round basketball program.  Our program is NOT for recreational purposes.  It is designed for boys who have a desire to play competitive basketball.  Our goal is to help devoted players reach their absolute potential by strengthening their basketball fundamentals, teaching them to overcome adversity and commit themselves to become discipline players through teamwork, so they can be successful at the high-school level.  Through this game of basketball, we also teach players the life lesson that HARD WORK PRODUCES RESULTS. And lastly, we want to create special memories that will last a lifetime for players, family and fans alike.

Player Development

Teaching Fundamentals

Values and Other Skills

The focus of the select program is to develop well-rounded players who are interested in competing at the higher level. Unlike other outlets, which are more recreational in nature (Arlington & Mansfield Parks, YMCA & Upwards), select basketball is an accelerated program and requires a greater commitment on the part of players and parents.

In preparation for high school level basketball, We highly stress the importance of  using  fundamentals and having good work habits. This will include everything from using the proper techniques to learning how to be a team player.

Basketball  teaches our children about leadership, discipline, teamwork, sacrifice, respect, responsibility and good work ethic. Through all the hard work, We never lose sight of the overriding goal – to have fun!

 Learning The Fundamentals

Our society loves the game of basketball.  Unfortunately a terrible trend has taken placed at all levels of this great game over the years.  Although players are bigger, faster, and stronger than ever before, the overall skill level of basketball players has taken a severe drop.  The fundamentals of the game are being neglected for one-on-one play, slam dunks and poor shooting percentages instead using the triple threat position, proper footwork and good shooting mechanics.  The game of basketball has become an athletic contest where fundamentals are grossly overlooked.  The lack of fundamentals is the primary reason the Mansfield Tarheels exist today

Sorry, there are no shortcuts to greatness on the basketball court or in life.

In 1978 Michael Jordan was cut from the high school varsity team as a sophomore for a number of reasons (height and strength) but also because he wasn’t quite good enough – yet.  He used that minor setback to motivate himself to do four things…

- Practice more often

- Practice smarter

- Practice more intensely

- Compete at a level that was unmatched

“Every time I play, I feel like I’ve got something to prove.  Getting cut in high school has a lot to do with that.  I was really surprised and embarrassed when the coach cut me.  That’s when I started to take the game seriously.”  - Michael Jordan
